OUR VALUES
INNOVATION
We foster an environment where students think critically, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and explore their creative potential through hands-on experience with cutting edge technology.
EMPOWERMENT
We provide experiences and individual autonomy that afford our members the ability to develop as professionals and transition from their degrees into real world roles.
EDUCATION
We are committed to helping students further their education beyond their academics in allowing the application of their theoretical knowledge through experiential learning.
INCLUSIVITY
We welcome any student, regardless of identity, degree, or experience, to join our team and drive the heart of Saskatchewan’s space sector.
MEET THE TEAM
Our projects would not be possible without the help of our committed team members

Principal Investigators
This position is taken on by experienced university professors who volunteer their time to oversee the project. Although the vast majority of development is student-driven, the principal investigators serve as advisors for them throughout the project. Additionally, they manage any logistics and legalities beyond the scope of the students.
Project Managers
These positions are taken on by a group of undergraduate students. They are responsible for the communication between the different branches of the team (technical, relations and finance), the principal investigators and other external parties (vendors, sponsors, universities, other CUBICS teams).
They are also responsible for leading their respective branch from a higher level; overseeing operations and providing guidance to them.
Subteams and Team Leads
All general members work together in a design subteam, which is responsible for a particular subsystem on the satellite. Each subteam has a team lead or co-leads who are responsible for assigning tasks and mentoring general members throughout their portion of the project.

Attitude Determination and Control Systems
ADCS is in charge of the attitude determination and control subsystem, which is used for detumbling and pointing the solar panels and payloads on RADSAT-SK2. SKILLS DEVELOPED - Gain a practical understanding of magnetic fields - Coding for simulations - Communicating with industry members
Mechanical
Mechanical is in charge of the development and integration of all the structural components of the CubeSat, as well as any thermal control systems involved. They also simulate the vibrations, loads and thermal conditions the CubeSat will experience to optimize its performance. SKILLS DEVELOPED - CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drafting - Performing research - Simulation analysis - 3D printing - Design for manufacturing - Documentation - Technical communication
Power and Electrical
Power and electrical manages physical connections between the onboard computer (central computer for the satellite), and the other boards (payload, transceiver, battery, etc). They create the electrical power system (EPS) for the CubeSat consisting of solar panels for power generation, a battery for storing power and a power distributions board (PDB) for monitoring and distributing power. SKILLS DEVELOPED - Printed circuit board (PCB) design - Communication skills - Problem solving skills
Systems
The systems team ensures that the subsystems made by the other technical subteams work together as whole functioning satellite. This means they must work closely with every other subteam throughout the whole project. They are also rersponsible for managing any technical risks associated with the design. SKILLS DEVELOPED - Managerial skills - General technical knowledge
Communications
Comms provides the communications system on the satellite. This system provides a means to control and receive diagnostic information from the satellite, as well as transmitting the payload data back to earth. SKILLS DEVELOPED - Digital radiofrequency communications - Amateur radio - Digital signal processing
Operations
Operations is in charge of CubeSat operations from Earth. This includes building, testing and running the ground station (where the subteam members will try to communicate with RADSAT-SK2). They are also rersponsible for licensing both the CubeSat and ground station. SKILLS DEVELOPPED - Knowledge of RF (radio frequency) and radio systems - Procurement of HAM radio license - Base level knowledge of satellite commuicaitons - Possible understanding of orbital mechanics
Relations
The relations branch consists of three subteams: HR who is in charge of internal relations and team building activities, Media who is in charge of the project's social media, website and appearance in the media, and Outrerach who is in charge of extrernal relations, merchandise and presentations revolving the project. SKILLS DEVELOPED - Creating graphics on Canva - Using a heat press to create merchandise - Creating presentations and public speaking - Social media management - Website development and upkeep - Data analysis
Finance
The Finance branch serves as the accounting and budgeting backbone that keeps all the other subteams equipped with the right purchased tools, and on track to stay funded throughout the whole project. They also explore funding applications and sponsorship opportunities to increase the support each team is funded by. Finance is composed of four subteams: Accounting, Fundraising, Budgeting and Purchasing. SKILLS DEVELOPED - Networking opportunities in the industry - Team collaboration within a structured framework - Application of theory learned in a real-world buisness organization
Payload
Payload is responsible for the scientific component of the CubeSat, which includes the experiment and its concept. For RADSAT-SK2, this includes the melanin shielding, micro controller hardness testing, cloud viewing camera and external payloads. SKILLS DEVELOPED - PCB Design - Scientific thinking - Machine Learning - Micro Controller Programing
Software
Software is responsible for OBC (On Board Computer) Hardware Design, data handling, and software integration with all the other subteams.
